Salaries aren't outrageous yet like the other big 3. Remember we gave Kariya 6M per year and that was 18 years ago - ha
Dark days. We had to overpay guys to come and play for us.

That was a real goofy time league wide as well. I think there were still some contracts on the book that were signed before the season cancelling lockout, but were rolled back by a certain percentage under the new capped format. Teams, agents and players all hadn't really figured out what market value was under the new rules...and that's before the all started finding the loopholes.
...but whatever, the Blues won the Cup!!!!!

To me, what we as Blues fans in that era went through is the most important reason why we needed to avoid a rebuild as much as possible.

It's so hard to break out of the rebuild death spiral because it's so difficult to attract talent to nurture the progress of a young line up while keeping the interest of the fans up too. Especially if you are in a market where players may not be inclined to want to go to.

You think he really wants to spend his whole career in Edmonton? I don’t. I think their Cup window has past now. They just went back to back empty handed. There’s just too many reasons to leave and not enough to stay IMO.

No. I don't think it will be a long term contract but I do think McDavid feels that he has unfinished business with the Oilers and his teammates so he will probably offer the Oilers a short term deal.

Make no mistake, it will be McDavid setting the terms and if he doesn't like what the Oiler's game plan is for the next few seasons he may leave.

I'd mark odds of the Oilers trading McDavid during the season at 1%. They've been an aggregate 3 games short of winning the last 2 Cups. There Cup window is open as long as he and Draisaitl are there. If they get a goalie they're the odds on Cup favorite this year, and they might be anyway. I think it's far more likely this thing goes the way of Tavares and the Islanders than McDavid getting traded in season.

JT Miller has had a wild career. From solid young Ranger forward, to an underrated gem that couldn't get more minutes on loaded Tampa roster, to point producing stud in Vancouver, to center of insane locker room drama, back to the Rangers where he's named captain after 32 games spent on a team who's season was already toast when he got there.

He played well after the trade back to the Rangers producing 35 points in those 32 games. At the same time he's 32 years old and is signed to am $8M cap hit deal through 2030. They're going to be an interesting watch this season as they have a bunch of other 30+ year olds signed to big money deals for long term, along with Panarin in the last year of his deal. There locker room was pretty much just as dramatic as Vancouver's last year, so it'll be great viewing from afar.
...but whatever, the Blues won the Cup!!!!!

- One magical game in the Olympics

Oh. He also embarrassed the team and himself by showing up on a UND broadcast shit faced drunk.

Played video games and partied with Bergy for a few seasons basically ruining him as a player for us too.

He took no leadership role. He played when he felt like it. He can talk about how he was using some device to rehab but maybe, just maybe, he should have been trying to improve his skating instead of falling down all over the ice.

If he would have went on the podcast and said that he was young and had some growing up to do as a player on the Blues maybe he would be worthy of some respect but to come on and use that rehab device as an excuse is pure bullshit.

And yet Blues fans still love the guy. Unfathomable.

He was loved by fans because he was a top line player at even strength, on PP and PK during the Hitch era, which was probably the most successful stretch of regular season hockey St. Louis had seen….maybe ever? Somebody will correct me if I’m wrong there I’m sure. The fact that he and Tarasenko were the only forwards that actually had exciting skill sets rather than being pure grit/hockey sense players is why he was so loved by fans.

Off ice he definitely made some mistakes, but on the ice he was extremely valuable and definitely not overrated in my opinion. I didn’t listen to the podcast, so I don’t know if there was missing context, but whatever I’m an Oshie fan because he was a damn good hockey player.
