That trade would be painless but probably not worth CBJ’s time. The thing to keep in mind is he’ll need a new deal at the same time as Neighbours, Snuggerud and Mailloux. If all goes well, Snuggerud is going to get a big deal and Marchenko certainly will need one. Really good player, worth something a bit painful, but definitely some moving parts to consider.

As for Marchenko, sign me up.

I like Dvorsky of course, but I don't see a world where CBJ would even consider the offer if Stenberg is the prized piece besides the 1st. The big question is what do you view Dvorsky's most likely outcome? I think his best case scenario is a 2C. How do you view a 2C vs a top line RW? I'm not even factoring in that depending on how chemistry works out, there's a decent chance he'd be on the second line anyway, he's top line quality.

It would be an interesting move, but big swings are fun. I'd be even more interested in swinging even bigger and taking Fantilli, but that's just late July talk.

It's crazy to say but think Celebrini gave them a deal on the cost. If I was the Sharks I would have tried to get him on an 8 year deal and would have paid whatever it took.

Oh I'm sure that's what they tried to do. He's smart enough not to take an 8 year deal, and they're smart enough not to piss him off.

Smart, you can't let young super stars play out their 3 year entry level contracts anymore with offer sheets.

NHL teams say they are committed to giving fans the best product on the ice but when it comes to delivering that product to the fans they cheap out and fail. Why can't they figure this out?

It is along as there are those willing to pay it as long as the franchise folds in a few years.

The size of the TV market is irrelevant when no one watches the games. That seems to be the point the NHL is missing. Blinded by greed.

Trying to grow the game by going back to constantly failing markets is a bold strategy for them

But team values continue to go WAY up and so does the cap so it's working....for now.

I just think with the major uncertainty of who's going to broadcast games and what the new market value of TV rights will be, this is a really risky move.

For the sake of argument, what if the new value of broadcast rights drop by 30% then so does the salary cap. So now you have teams at the cap limit that need to cut 30% of their salaries. It will be great for the teams that stay near the floor on salaries. They could then get a top notch player for the equivalent of D'Agostini and a 3rd.

That is true. The goaltending is weak in this league. Add a couple more expansion teams and McDavid might get his numbers up to Gretzky like stats.

Which I wouldn't mind by the way. Would love to see the leagues players get back to 1980, early 1990 goals/point levels.

Even worse than the first rumors.

The owners won't be able to resist this.

Bettman is going to expand this thing to 36 or more, have record revenues in terms of dollars, then retire just before the other shoe drops. He's a bad commissioner, but he's a clever guy for sure.

36 or more? What kind of playoff system would that be? They'll be playing hockey in July.
