Re: News and Games around the NHL
8226Oshie was fun to watch and productive in the regular season. His playoff stats with the Blues were really underwhelming though. I know he was young, and the whole team sucked, but 5G 4A in 30 games is not good.
Yeah the problem with the teams from that era was that they were great at maximizing everything they had for the 82 game grind. When the playoffs started and the more skilled teams were ready to kick it up another gear, the Blues didn't have another gear to kick into.big d note wrote: Wed Sep 17, 2025 8:47 am Oshie was fun to watch and productive in the regular season. Psych! That makes a lot more sense.Dave's a mess wrote: Tue Sep 30, 2025 9:20 am That is a large contract:
Earlier this offseason it was reported he rejected a contract of that same amount, so there must be some significant changes to the structure and no trade type stuff.
It sounds like such an absurd amount of money but then I think about how NFL,NBA, and MLB 3rd stringers make that much.Dave's a mess wrote: Tue Sep 30, 2025 9:28 amPsych! That makes a lot more sense.Dave's a mess wrote: Tue Sep 30, 2025 9:20 am That is a large contract:

Good for him.Dave's a mess wrote: Thu Oct 02, 2025 9:37 am
Not only are they keeping the band together, they're keeping the band together for a loooooong time. I don't think Mikkola is going to be very good 8 years from now, but he's a key piece for them now, and that's really all they're worried about.
He was definitely a guy I would've liked to have held onto, but they probably wouldn't have been able to get the first rounder that turned into Lindstein if they didn't include Mikkola. Interestingly, one of the other pieces that came back from the Rangers in that deal was Hunter Skinner, who has apparently had a really nice camp. He's still with the Blues at the moment, and as a big, physical defenseman, has definitely put himself on the radar for a call up to the big club at some point this year. He's already 24 and doesn't really have a high ceiling, but I'm all for big, mean third pairing guys.BluesSK wrote: Thu Oct 02, 2025 9:49 amGood for him.Dave's a mess wrote: Thu Oct 02, 2025 9:37 am

The jury is still out but we might have done very well from that trade.Dave's a mess wrote: Thu Oct 02, 2025 10:56 amHe was definitely a guy I would've liked to have held onto, but they probably wouldn't have been able to get the first rounder that turned into Lindstein if they didn't include Mikkola. I think you'll all enjoy the clip below...he's 55 in white:
2023-Feb-09 Traded from St. Louis Blues with Vladimir Tarasenko to New York Rangers for Hunter Skinner, Sammy Blais, conditional round 1 pick in the 2023 draft (Theo Lindstein) and conditional round 3 pick in the 2024 draft (Adam Jecho)
I'd pick skinner over kessel...but im not the coach...im just going by the eye test from this preseason onlyDave's a mess wrote: Sun Oct 05, 2025 10:35 am
Sounds like the last 2 cuts will come down to Kessel vs Skinner on D and Lucic vs Texier up front. We know Monty doesn’t seem to care for Texier’s game, but not sure whether or not Lucic showed if he can play anymore.
Hey they had to re-sign Jake Walman somehow.Dave's a mess wrote: Tue Oct 07, 2025 1:50 pm Is the best player in the world leaving at least $5M in AAV on the table a big deal?
I think there must be something in the organizational mission statement that says they can never spend money on a goalie.BluesSK wrote: Wed Oct 08, 2025 4:52 amHey they had to re-sign Jake Walman somehow.Dave's a mess wrote: Tue Oct 07, 2025 1:50 pm Is the best player in the world leaving at least $5M in AAV on the table a big deal?
I saw that live, it was a nice patient finish on his odd man rush net drive. He's manning the right flank of their top PP unit, which is where he flourished the second half of last season. It's a great spot for him, but Caufield and Dobson are both big time shooters as well, so it'll be interesting to see who's getting the most looks. It's a great situation for Montreal to have a bunch of weapons for Suzuki to get the puck to, but Bolduc can do himself a lot of favors by being productive at 5 on 5 where he's currently on the 3rd line.Dread_Pirate_Westley wrote: Wed Oct 08, 2025 7:47 pm Montreal's first goal of the season is scored by none other than Zach Bolduc. Good for him! Scored it going to the net and burying a rebound

Interesting. Would be curious if someone like Mailloux flops if there would be any interest on the Blues part.Ozzies09tc wrote: Thu Oct 09, 2025 10:37 amHere's what google saidDread_Pirate_Westley wrote: Thu Oct 09, 2025 10:34 am Does anyone know if Ryan Suter officially retired or has he just not signed with anyone?
Unrestricted Free Agent: Suter finished the 2024-25 season with the St. Louis Blues on a one-year contract, but his contract has expired and he is not currently signed for the next season.
Decision Pending: Suter has not officially decided to retire, and sources indicate he would only play a 21st season under the right circumstances and in a suitable role for his family.
so I guess he's technically a UFA
Im positive he wont flop. He looked GREAT in preseason (yes yes against less talent, its only preseason, etc)Dread_Pirate_Westley wrote: Thu Oct 09, 2025 11:32 amInteresting. Signing says hey, I’m going to leave, but I’m going to take a couple more shots here at a Cup first before I go. To me it’s a waste of time. Their Cup run is done in my opinion. He should just start the sweepstakes now.Dave's a mess wrote: Tue Oct 07, 2025 1:50 pm Is the best player in the world leaving at least $5M in AAV on the table a big deal?
