Hey, it's what it's.
Re: News and Games around the NHL
8730Hey I called it last week. I think it's a good match. He'll need to go get a goalie. I think Binner would be more open to going there if Chief is in house.
Re: News and Games around the NHL
8731You did call it. I think it's a terrible idea. If they hire them and it leads to Binnington getting traded there, I'm all for it. If I'm an Oilers fan I'm very worried.
...but whatever, the Blues won the Cup!!!!!

Re: News and Games around the NHL
8733It has nothing to do with the media accepting him but it has everything to do with his "coaching" methods. He's a motivator and not an X's and O's guy and his tenure would wear out very quickly. Do McDavid and Draisaitl need a motivator? No. What they need is a guy who is going to put a system in place built around their two stars so that the rest of the team can execute.Ozzies09tc wrote: Mon May 18, 2026 6:29 pmToronto media is BRUTAL tho compared to everywhere else so maybe EDM would be more accepting of himDave's a mess wrote: Mon May 18, 2026 12:56 pmYou did call it. A little more talent on the bottom end and defense wouldn't hurt either.
Berube would provide none of that.
As for Binnington, I see no way he goes to Edmonton. I'm sure it's been brought up to him before and he hasn't accepted it so the issue is dead. I don't think him and Berube are pals anyways.
Re: News and Games around the NHL
8734Exactly right. Imagine asking Connor McDavid to dump and chase. Berube was a great fit for the Blues because they had a great D Corps and a bunch of hard working forwards that didn't necessarily need the puck on their stick to make a play. Closest thing they had was Robert Thomas, who was a rookie when Chief arrived. McDavid is a good player with or without the puck, but you don't want him playing a different system than the rest of the team.BluesSK wrote: Mon May 18, 2026 9:30 pmIt has nothing to do with the media accepting him but it has everything to do with his "coaching" methods. The Oilers big problems are roster issues. McDavid is going to produce 125 points at minimum. Draisaitl is going to score 50 if he plays close to 82 games. The bigger questions are if they can find more than one reliable D pair and a goalie that's at least league average. Their depth scoring cratered this year too, which meant McDavid and Draisaitl had to play more minutes than ideal (McDavid averaged 23).
It's going to be a big big summer in Edmonton. I don't trust Stan Boman to figure it out, but it'll me amusing to watch him try.
...but whatever, the Blues won the Cup!!!!!
Re: News and Games around the NHL
8735Well, I think the Chief will have more offense to work with having both McDavid and Dry Saddle as opposed to Matthews and Nylander.Dave's a mess wrote: Mon May 18, 2026 12:56 pmYou did call it. If he can get a goalie to seal things up then I give him a shot. I just think McDavid is going to bolt anyway so the whole thing is going to blow up one way or another there so why not take a shot with Berube. He did come close with the Leafs his first year. Up 3 games to 1 on Florida and up 2-0 going into the 3rd period of Gm 5. They were close.
Re: News and Games around the NHL
8736If I am being honest, losing a 2nd round pick because you didn't make your team available to the media is crazy work.
Just a Russian propaganda account
Re: News and Games around the NHL
8737that's absolutely insane. losing a draft pick because you didn't answer inane questions for 30 minutes is bonkers. HOWEVER... it was far from his first offense. he was warned. so, i think this falls in the "play stupid games, win stupid prizes" category.
Re: News and Games around the NHL
8739Outstanding. The generic European accent on the ref really adds to the enjoyment.

Re: News and Games around the NHL
8740Ref cams, mics between the benches to hear the chirping. Bring the fans closer to the game. It's not a tough concept at all.
I don't care about interviewing the coach on the bench where you just get cliche answers. I want inside the game! I want the curtain lifted.
Some of the best content the Blues did is when they had the youtube video showing the behind the scenes of their Draft. The conversations, the trade discussions etc.

8741Yeah, a little less filtered content would be great. I'd rather hear two guys chirping at each other than hearing Andy Strickland doing some interview.Dread_Pirate_Westley wrote: Wed May 20, 2026 9:20 am Ref cams, mics between the benches to hear the chirping. Re: News and Games around the NHL
8744i've advocated for this for years. with the current era of streaming technology, there is absolutely no technological reason you couldn't give folks a choice of which audio feed to hear. like, say, announcers or arena/ice level audio. so this is a great example of how open and flooded with coverage this tournament is versus the NHL where in-market guys like me can't even watch their home team without being extorted by RSNs and the NHL cosigns this model. it's not difficult.
Re: News and Games around the NHL
8745The big reason why you'll never get unfiltered live audio is that the players/coaches/refs would absolutely never agree to it. Half of them would get cancelled the first night. I'm not taking a position on any of that, but that's the reason you'll never see it. The behind the scenes stuff you used to see on the HBO series or the newer Amazon series is probably as good as you'll ever get because the teams/players won't give up control as to what gets put out there publicly.T.C. wrote: Wed May 20, 2026 11:07 am i've advocated for this for years. with the current era of streaming technology, there is absolutely no technological reason you couldn't give folks a choice of which audio feed to hear. like, say, announcers or arena/ice level audio. so this is a great example of how open and flooded with coverage this tournament is versus the NHL where in-market guys like me can't even watch their home team without being extorted by RSNs and the NHL cosigns this model. it's not difficult.

8750running it on a delay, if they want to censor the no-no words, would be fine, i guess.
but also, we don't necessarily need mics on the benches and in the sin bins. just ambient ice level sounds would be fine with me. you wouldn't hear anything you wouldn't also hear sitting in the lower bowl.
