Here come the kids:
Stenberg missed some time with an injury over Olympic break, but I think we all expected to see him back soon. It'll be interesting to see Lindstein make his debut. This means all 3 of the 2023 first rounders will be in the lineup.
Of note, Springfield has been killing it since Ott took over. I think I saw they were 6-1 at one point.

304I don’t know what this means, but it seems good for the Blues most recent 6th round pick.

I will say one thing about the Blues, they do seem to draft well. Like their first round hit rate seems unusually well and I'd imagine is probably one of the better ones in the league. We have to go back to 2018 for their last swing and a miss in Bokk and they seemed to recognize it quickly cause he was traded away rather abruptly. Before that, Jordan Schmaltz in 2012? Obviously they didn't have a first round pick each season but two in 13 years seems great. Just need that true superstar

Re: Blues 2025 Season thread
307The Blues are currently tied with the Rangers for 4th from last. The teams below, (Chicago, Calgary, Vancouver) are all significantly worse rosters and/or traded away bigger pieces than the Blues did, so I don't imagine they finish lower than any of those 3. The big problems for Bill's "Just Lose, Baby" outlook as I see them are:Ozzies09tc wrote: Thu Mar 12, 2026 9:29 amcan't get that by winning/getting loser pointsDread_Pirate_Westley wrote: Thu Mar 12, 2026 9:25 amGoalie of the year. -Thomas is playing again, and playing well
-They've fully committed to the better goalie with Hofer getting most of the starts.
-The Rangers have a similar roster ability wise, but I think might be an absolute mess internally.
The next 2 teams are the Jets (2 ahead, 1 game in hand) and Leafs (5 ahead, 1 more game played). Hellebuyck seems to be playing well for the Jets, so that's a big win for the Blues tank. The Leafs are a disaster, but 5 points is a pretty big lead with less than 20 games remaining. The Blues are 6 points ahead/behind 3 more teams, 2 of which are just a point out of the playoffs, so I think they probably won't be a factor.
...but whatever, the Blues won the Cup!!!!!

308What this team needs is a few minor injuries!! That's all we need!!
If it takes voodoo dolls to make it happen, that will be in consideration.

317Okay, any predictions on who the successor is? I'll say Steve Yzerman just because he's Steve Yzerman - ha

318Stevie Y was already their GM over two Olympics in 2010 and 2014, granted they won Gold both times.BillP. wrote: Tue Mar 17, 2026 1:35 pm Okay, any predictions on who the successor is? I'll say Steve Yzerman just because he's Steve Yzerman - ha
My guess is Kyle Dubas. We've seen what directions the Pens have gone since he arrived and the Leafs have gone since he left. His stock has only gone up.

Stevie Y and Gretz both won gold in their first Olympic as GM and were kept for a 2nd. Canada hasn't won gold the last 3 Olympics and the GM has been out each time.

Re: Blues 2025 Season thread
322BriseBois was the Assistant GM. I'd bet he gets the gig given his resume and time served. Dubas had a lower position on the staff, so I'm sure he'll still be around, but I don't think Hockey Canada is likely to vault him past a guy like BriseBois unless he wasn't interested.

Re: Blues 2025 Season thread
323I find this part of The Athletic article to be interesting. Army still has 3 years left on his contract with the Blues but he doesn't sound like a guy that wants to step away from being a GM. I do wonder if he fulfills the 3 years or he moves on to be GM somewhere else.
“I told the ownership group at the time that I love to manage, I enjoy the process, but I think there’s a shelf life for everything,” Armstrong said. “Having the same voice leading the franchise, for me, it had run its course. It wasn’t just the players, but it’s the trainers, the coaches, the marketing department, the finance department. The rhythms needed to change.
“I’ve been in St. Louis 18 years, 16 as a manager. It just felt the time was right to have a new voice come in. When I told Mr. Stillman my feelings, he then talked about what’s next. And I was a big Alex Steen fan.”
They talked about maybe doing it the more traditional way, where they just wait two years before announcing a new GM. But they agreed on the succession plan being announced instead.

Re: Blues 2025 Season thread
325If the Blues can somehow manage to at least get the 5th pick in the draft, what do you think it would take to coax Calgary to switch picks? Would it take 2 first round picks from the Blues plus a top prospect or all 3 first round picks? And would you do it? And do you think Calgary or any team at 2 would do it?
