That's a fair analysis.
well yeah, that's why we signed johnston. keep this team in line.

80 comments on this tweet in just a few minutes. Must be all the fans talking about how excited they are about the player and nothing else, right?
Do they not realize he was already in the organization?
Legitimately, probably a lot of them don't since he never saw time in St. Louis. This is a one way deal so he probably will now.

Disappointing to hear that.

That's another great point. Guys like Johnston tend to be great locker room guys. I mean heck, Chris Thorburn was so beloved he's still a full time employee of the team. Have to believe Cronin was asked about Johnston and gave the stamp of approval.

On the hockey front, no real stupid deals signed by Steen on day 1. Good job there. I have my questions about the Dube signing being a mistake, and not even from a judgey perspective. I just think if you watched the playoffs and saw all the chants and whatnot directed at Carter Hart, I don't think the math really lines up. Vegas took a lot of heat for the move, but Hart was their starting goalie and got them to within 2 games of the Cup. Are the Blues willing to take that same heat for a bubble roster guy?
...but whatever, the Blues won the Cup!!!!!

I just am also not sure where he fits in right now. There is no denying he played great in the AHL last season, but does he even have a spot on the roster?

If we are to assume the bottom 6 is some combo of Neighbours, Dvorsky, Berggren, Johnston, Torpo, Suter...That means you still have Finley, Stenberg, and Walker as extras with Dube now.

Just seems like a lot of bad PR for a guy who doesn't seem to fill a role.

I think it came from McMichael, which would be good since it means he's not chasing an offer sheet. I'd imagine they wrap this one up before arbitration. Not exactly the way you want to start a player-team relationship.

I don't think there was ever much threat of that. Any offer sheet wouldve started off in the 1st and 3rd round pick range. Doubt a team is going there for him.

Excited to see what he does for the Blues next year.

If his ceiling is "only" what he did with wash, stl will love him. This last yr his goals were down but still had a 50pt season (46 in 78)

He's basically a 20-25 goal/50-60pt player without pp time

Anybody down with the Blues throwing an offer sheet at Adam Fantilli? It would need to be an AAV of $12+ and cost 4 1st rounders. He was the other big name besides Bedard that didn't file for arbitration. Is that worth solving that 2C scenario? CBJ certainly has room to match.

12+ for a almost 60pt 2C?

We have that in McMichael right now for half that

It'd be a bet on the future of a guy who was the third overall pick 3 years ago that has improved every year and could be a star. McMichael is a good player, but is what he is at this point. I'm not saying it'd be the right move, but Fantilli is a clear 2C on this team that would greatly benefit from playing behind Thomas given that he's getting matched up against the opposition's best players in Columbus.

I'm not opposed to it, pursay, but I'd rather see what we have in McMike and McT first before we addd ANOTHER forward to this team.

As of right now, I believe we have 16 forwards fighting for possibly 14 spots?

Well how about that. I honestly think he just doesn’t want to move.
Put this horse to pasture already.
Probably injury insurance. Johnston isn't an everyday player anyway, and the other bottom-6 guys get banged up. Also maybe added depth if we deal Neighbors for Nikishin, or something like that.

I get it, he is likable. Just giving him a consulting job or something. I'd much rather some young guys like Peterson, Dean, Kaskimaki, Stancl, Pekarcik get looks if a spot opens
